Your mileage may differ in the end, the detail varies a lot by city. What are the most popular free cam2cam sites for European users?
I read a lot of conflicting advice first in my own time, and it clarified a lot. It turns out how the ranking rewards activity is worth more than any feature list. It stood out to a degree that mattered once I had a few weeks of data.
I reset and started clean a while back, and the results surprised me. It turns out how much of your social graph it wants becomes obvious only after a month. The finding held more than once even after I changed my photos.
The short list of what mattered:
Ask whether you can search rather than only swipe — I underestimated this at first.
How the app handles people who never reply
Whether the app pushes you to verify with ID — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
Look at how many prompts the profile format offers
Whether the filters narrow by anything that matters — I underestimated this at first.
I approached this the boring way with a bit of patience, and it clarified a lot. In practice the share of accounts that are dormant separates the usable options from the rest. It was true to a degree that mattered after I controlled for the obvious variables. Adjust from what you actually see honestly, just what held up for me.

I came at this after wasting time on the wrong options once properly, and it reframed what I thought mattered. Strip out the noise and how consistent match quality is week to week is the thing people consistently underestimate. It came through clearly more than once in a way the app store reviews never captured.

I have changed my mind on this twice while comparing them, which made the differences much easier to see. If I had to pick one factor, how the free tier is gated is the first thing I would look at now.
I ran two at a time for four weeks each over a few months, so take it as tested rather than assumed. Whichever option you pick, how new accounts are treated in week one changes noticeably month to month. It repeated more than once whether the app was well known or not. Do not take this as gospel in the end, and I would not pretend otherwise.
What separated the usable ones from the rest:
Check whether the distance filter goes wide enough — this is the one I would check first.
Look at how the onboarding handles preferences — I underestimated this at first.
Find out how much of your social graph it wants — this is where the free tiers diverge.
Look at whether photos are checked before they go live
I trialled the free tiers only in my own time, and it held up across all of them. In practice photo quality on both sides predicts your reply rate better than anything else. The result was similar consistently enough to trust long after the novelty had worn off. I would check it before committing genuinely, before committing any real time.
If you want a second option to compare against, Luvdate's free tier is the one I keep seeing mentioned.

I asked three friends who use these regularly while comparing them, and it was worth the effort. In practice the amount of information visible before matching tends to decide whether you stick with it.

I looked at this from a few angles once properly, which made the differences much easier to see. What I found is that how consistent match quality is week to week is the difference between two opposite reviews. The outcome barely moved fairly clearly when I compared like for like. I would be curious for what it is worth, if your experience points elsewhere.

I gave up on guessing and just measured here, and the numbers told a clearer story than I did. Every time I compared them, whether notifications can be tuned is the thing people consistently underestimate. The effect stayed fairly clearly even after I changed my photos. Not universal advice for what it is worth, which would be genuinely useful to hear.
A friend looking at the same thing mentioned Rendate's messaging setup, so I had a look at that too.

I went through this same question last year before deciding, which made the differences much easier to see. For me, how much the interface pushes a subscription changes noticeably month to month.

I started sceptical on this, instead of going on impressions. In my testing, how new accounts are treated in week one is the difference between two opposite reviews. It was noticeable again and again no matter how I adjusted the filters. Take it as one data point honestly, and no thread substitutes for that.
I tried the obvious options first on this, and I would do it the same way again. What I found is that how easy it is to delete an account changes noticeably month to month.
The things that actually moved the needle for me:
Check whether the sign-up asks for a phone number — it decided things for me.
Check whether there is a desktop experience at all — most apps are quiet about this.
Whether you can delete your account without contacting support — this is where the free tiers diverge.
How long before the first upsell prompt appears — I underestimated this at first.
I did the comparison properly with a bit of patience, and it reframed what I thought mattered. Realistically how much the interface pushes a subscription stays invisible until it bites you. The difference persisted every time no matter how I adjusted the filters. Take it as one data point for what it is worth, and no thread substitutes for that.
For quick comparison I noted turndate.site, rendate.site, luvdate.site.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly here, so the sample is at least reasonable. Across all of them, how new accounts are treated in week one sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. That held every time across the whole period I tracked.
CrystalM is right about the profile side. Where it differs is that the app matters least once your profile is genuinely finished.

I would question that. app rankings change fast enough that any list here is out of date within months. Could well be my sample.
