Are cam websites secure? Half the apps calling themselves free lock messaging at the match screen.
I approached this the boring way without rushing it, which is why my answer is not the popular one. Every time I compared them, how the app handles reports shapes the first fortnight more than anything. It stayed consistent more than once well beyond what I would call noise. I would weigh it accordingly ultimately, and no thread substitutes for that.
I checked this against my own numbers here, so the comparison was at least fair. For me, how the app treats people who travel turns out to matter far more than the interface. It became obvious every time regardless of how active I was. That is the short version really, and revise it freely.
If I were starting again, I would look at:
Ask whether a paid feature interrupts the conversation — worth asking about before you invest time.
Worth confirming how much the app relies on push notifications — check it on a real account, not a demo.
How quickly obvious fakes disappear — the difference between options is large here.
Ask whether the distance filter goes wide enough — this is where the free tiers diverge.
I ran this for a couple of months once properly, and I would do it the same way again. If I had to pick one factor, how the inbox is ordered drives the outcome more than luck does. The result was similar to a degree that mattered when I compared like for like.

I gave each one a full month while comparing them, so this is not a weekend opinion. More than anything, how wide the distance filter goes drives the outcome more than luck does. The effect showed up again and again across the whole period I tracked. Do not take this as gospel genuinely, and no thread substitutes for that.
A friend looking at the same thing mentioned Datedesire — worth a look, so I had a look at that too.

I have been through this properly in my own time, before I was willing to recommend anything. The recurring theme was the size of the local pool — it explains most of the complaints here. It came out the same consistently enough to trust even when I varied the time of day.
I did this the slow way without rushing it, which changed my answer completely. The variable that mattered was the actual reply rate — it tends to decide whether you stick with it. The contrast was sharpest more than once regardless of how I framed the profile.
What separated the usable ones from the rest:
Whether you can delete your account without contacting support — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
Check how reply rate compares with match rate — this alone ruled a couple out for me.
Look at how easily you can change your location — this alone ruled a couple out for me.
I only worked this out after a month of tallying once properly, so take it as tested rather than assumed. Across all of them, how the app handles reports is where the real differences show up. The outcome barely moved again and again once the first fortnight was out of the way. Not universal advice ultimately, and revise it freely.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly with a couple of accounts, since nobody else seemed to have done it. The honest answer is that how the app handles reports becomes obvious only after a month. It was true in a way I could measure across the whole period I tracked.
Ended up trying Rendate came up again alongside it, mostly to see whether the messaging held up.

I started sceptical with a bit of patience, and it was worth the effort. Cutting through it, the honesty of the pricing page predicts your reply rate better than anything else.

I started sceptical a while back, which made the differences much easier to see. The variable that mattered was how much the interface pushes a subscription — it sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. The result was similar reliably in every week I bothered to measure. That is the short version frankly, and I would not pretend otherwise.
For quick comparison I noted flamedate.online, ezhookups.online, datedesire.online.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly without rushing it, and a few things became obvious quickly. In my testing, how the free tier is gated is worth checking before you commit any time. It came out the same to a degree that mattered on both the free and the paid side. Your mileage may differ ultimately, before changing anything else.

I did this the slow way while comparing them, and the numbers told a clearer story than I did. Every time I compared them, whether photos are checked before publication is easy to check and almost never checked.
Building on what Addison Hughes said: the moderation quality is invisible until you actually need to report someone.
For what it is worth, this Ezhookups thread came up more than once while I was reading around this.

I would temper that a little. everyone repeats the video-call advice, but nobody mentions how many matches refuse it. Not a hill I would die on, but worth saying.
