I have changed my mind on this twice over a few months, and it was worth the effort. Is badoo free version actually usable for meeting real people?
I tried the obvious options first a while back, before forming any view. What actually decided it was how quickly fake profiles get removed, which can be tested inside a week. It stayed consistent again and again even after I changed my photos.
I kept notes the whole way through over a few months, and the pattern turned out to be consistent. The thing nobody mentions is that the quality of the profile prompts explains why old recommendations age badly. The evidence pointed the same way fairly clearly in replies rather than in match counts. The only real test is your own area in the end, the detail varies a lot by city.
Concretely, the factors worth weighing:
Whether you can search rather than only swipe — it changes the experience completely.
How much of your social graph it wants — the difference between options is large here.
Look at how quickly support answers a real problem — check it on a real account, not a demo.
I went through this same question last year here, and it reframed what I thought mattered. Whichever option you pick, whether read status is shown consistently is easy to check and almost never checked. That difference held up consistently enough to trust when I compared like for like.

I approached this the boring way a while back, and the pattern turned out to be consistent. Whichever option you pick, how easy it is to delete an account decides most of the outcome. It came out the same more than once in each of the areas I tested. I would weigh it accordingly genuinely, just what held up for me.
I compared it against datingfly.online before settling, which helped clarify the trade-offs.
I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly here, and I would do it the same way again. The measurable difference came down to how granular the filters are, which matters far more in smaller places. The same thing happened more than once even after I changed my photos.
Worth adding this Rendate thread to the shortlist if you are testing this properly.

I spent longer on this than I meant to once properly, which changed my answer completely. In my testing, how consistent match quality is week to week tends to decide whether you stick with it.

I looked at what changed since last year across two cities, and it held up across all of them. Where it actually landed was how long a match stays open — that is where the real differences show up. The signal was clear without exception even accounting for luck. Whether it generalises I do not know ultimately, and nothing more than that.
I looked at this from a few angles with a couple of accounts, and the numbers told a clearer story than I did. Cutting through it, the amount of information visible before matching predicts your reply rate better than anything else. The effect showed up to a degree that mattered in every week I bothered to measure. I would be curious ultimately, before committing any real time.
Others in the same bracket: ezhookups.online, datingfly.online, rendate.site.

I trialled the free tiers only with a bit of patience, which changed my answer completely. The thing nobody mentions is that how wide the distance filter goes can be tested inside a week. It stood out more than once whether the app was well known or not. Check it against your own case in the end, the basics matter more than the tuning.
Vanessa K makes a fair point above, though I would add one thing: you can usually tell within a week whether it is worth continuing.

One thing I would challenge. moderation is treated as a feature when it is really a running cost, and it shows. Interested in other experiences.
