I gave up on guessing and just measured without rushing it, and it clarified a lot. On the numbers, whether messaging is capped shapes the first fortnight more than anything. It was noticeable more than once regardless of how I framed the profile. Do not take this as gospel for what it is worth, and no thread substitutes for that.

I checked this against my own numbers with a bit of patience, before forming any view. Cutting through it, how the ranking rewards activity is the difference between two opposite reviews.

I ran two at a time for four weeks each a while back, and it was worth the effort. The short answer is that how new accounts are treated in week one is the part the marketing never mentions. The trend was steady quite plainly despite what the marketing implied. I would be curious ultimately, just what held up for me.

The questions I ask before installing anything now:

Ask whether read receipts exist — worth asking about before you invest time.
Worth confirming how obvious it is when someone has stopped using the app — this is the one I would check first.
Look at whether notifications can be tuned — this is where the free tiers diverge.
Whether you can delete your account without contacting support
