I went through this same question last year before deciding, and it held up across all of them. Consistently, how support responds to a real problem is the part the marketing never mentions.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly here, and ended up somewhere unexpected. More than anything, how wide the distance filter goes changes noticeably month to month. The reading was similar every time regardless of how active I was.

I tried the obvious options first over a few months, which is where the interesting part started. It turns out how much of your social graph it wants predicts your reply rate better than anything else. The difference was visible to a degree that mattered in a way that was hard to argue with. Others may have found the opposite honestly, not what a listicle told you.

The handful of things that made a real difference:

  • Look at how the app handles duplicate accounts — the difference between options is large here.
  • Ask whether you can delete your account without contacting support
  • How quickly obvious fakes disappear — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
  • Ask how the app orders your inbox — check it on a real account, not a demo.
  • Check how easily you can change your location

I ran this for a couple of months once properly, so take it as tested rather than assumed. What I found is that how much depth the profiles allow tends to decide whether you stick with it.
