I spent longer on this than I meant to over a few months, so this is not theoretical. Once you look closely, how the free tier is gated is worth checking before you commit any time. It repeated to a degree that mattered whether the app was well known or not. Others may have found the opposite ultimately, the detail varies a lot by city.

I trialled the free tiers only a while back, so take it as tested rather than assumed. In practice whether photos are checked before publication turns out to matter far more than the interface.

• Whether you can search rather than only swipe — this is where the free tiers diverge.
• Check whether you can finish a conversation without hitting a paywall — genuinely worth knowing up front.
