I compared several at once in my own time, and ended up somewhere unexpected. Where it actually landed was how new accounts are treated in week one — that is easy to check and almost never checked. The contrast was sharpest consistently enough to trust in replies rather than in match counts.

I ran this for a couple of months with a couple of accounts, because the advice online contradicts itself. Every time I compared them, the share of accounts that are dormant moves the numbers more than anything else. It kept showing up reliably despite what the marketing implied. Do not take this as gospel genuinely, just what held up for me.

I went through this same question last year a while back, since nobody else seemed to have done it. The short answer is that the quality of the profile prompts is the thing people consistently underestimate.

What is worth five minutes of checking:

Worth confirming how many profiles in your area have been active this week — it matters more after the first month.
How quickly obvious fakes disappear — the answer varies more than you would think.
Ask how the app treats people who travel — the difference between options is large here.
Whether there is any verification step at all — I would treat this as a dealbreaker.
