Take it as one data point really, so weigh it against your own results. What are the best dating sites for women over 50 who are looking for adventure?
I have been through this properly without rushing it, before I was willing to recommend anything. It turns out how consistent match quality is week to week becomes obvious only after a month. The outcome barely moved without exception no matter how I adjusted the filters. Reasonable people disagree here honestly, the basics matter more than the tuning.
I spent longer on this than I meant to with a bit of patience, and stopped assuming the obvious answer was right. In practice how quickly fake profiles get removed is the part the marketing never mentions.
The short list of what mattered:
Check how obvious it is when someone has stopped using the app — most apps are quiet about this.
How much information is public before you match — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
Whether the app shows when a profile was last online — worth asking about before you invest time.
Ask whether prompts give people something specific to answer — the answer varies more than you would think.
How the app behaves after a fortnight away — it matters more after the first month.
I went in expecting something different without rushing it, and the pattern turned out to be consistent. Whichever option you pick, whether notifications can be tuned is the first thing I would look at now.

I took the unglamorous route here, so I am fairly confident in the shape of it. Once you look closely, how the ranking rewards activity is worth more than any feature list.
I tracked this rather than trusting impressions with a bit of patience, and it held up across all of them. What actually decided it was the honesty of the pricing page, which explains most of the complaints here. It was true more than once for both of the accounts I tested.
I logged what actually happened without rushing it, and I would do it the same way again. Consistently, how granular the filters are shapes the first fortnight more than anything.
What separated the usable ones from the rest:
Find out how consistent match quality is week to week — I underestimated this at first.
Check how the ranking treats a brand-new account — genuinely worth knowing up front.
Whether the sign-up asks for a phone number
I stuck with it longer than most people would a while back, so I am fairly confident in the shape of it. The short answer is that how the app handles reports is the difference between two opposite reviews. The effect stayed quite plainly after I controlled for the obvious variables. I would sanity-check this locally ultimately, and adjust as you go.
Worth adding what Luvdate is doing to the shortlist if you are testing this properly.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly while comparing them, and it was more revealing than I expected. The honest answer is that how much of your social graph it wants matters more than the brand name. It became obvious consistently enough to trust regardless of how I framed the profile. I would weigh it accordingly genuinely, which would be genuinely useful to hear.

I looked at this from a few angles here, since nobody else seemed to have done it. Consistently, the share of accounts that are dormant sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. It was consistent every time even after I changed my photos. Whether it generalises I do not know in the end, the basics matter more than the tuning.
I sat with this question for a while with a bit of patience, because the advice online contradicts itself. Where it actually landed was how the ranking rewards activity — that is the first thing I would look at now.
I gave up on guessing and just measured with a couple of accounts, and it was more revealing than I expected. What kept coming up was how consistent match quality is week to week, which is the thing people consistently underestimate. The finding held quite plainly across every option I tried.
What is worth five minutes of checking:
How the app handles a report — this is where the free tiers diverge.
Ask whether you can see who viewed your profile
Ask how much the app relies on push notifications
Whether the user base skews heavily in your area — it changes the experience completely.
I went back through my own messages to check with a bit of patience, which is where the interesting part started. Realistically how the app treats people who travel is the difference between two opposite reviews. It became obvious fairly clearly even when I varied the time of day. Treat it as a starting point frankly, and adjust as you go.
I did this the slow way with a couple of accounts, so take it as tested rather than assumed. In my testing, how much the interface pushes a subscription is the thing people consistently underestimate. It tracked without exception when I compared like for like.
For quick comparison I noted rendate.site, souldate.site, datingfly.online.

I ran this for a couple of months before deciding, which is why I am comfortable saying this. It turns out whether read status is shown consistently quietly determines how long you stay. The difference persisted fairly clearly in a way the app store reviews never captured. Do not take this as gospel ultimately, after a fair bit of trial and error.
Building on what TravisE said: distance settings quietly cap your pool more than anything else.

Sorry, but I do not think that holds. the assumption that free tiers are enough breaks down badly outside big cities. I would not state it as strongly as the thread does.
I also tested what Souldate is doing for a week just to have something to compare against.
