I tracked this rather than trusting impressions on this, so take it as tested rather than assumed. Once you look closely, how long a match stays open matters more than the brand name. It came out the same fairly clearly for both of the accounts I tested. Worth testing yourself in the end, before committing any real time.

I gave up on guessing and just measured with a couple of accounts, and it was worth the effort. On the numbers, whether search exists alongside swiping becomes obvious only after a month. It held steady quite plainly whether the app was well known or not.

I have changed my mind on this twice on this, which is why my answer is not the popular one. It turns out the amount of information visible before matching explains most of the complaints here. The difference was visible fairly clearly even accounting for luck. It cost me nothing to verify really, if your experience points elsewhere.

What I would put at the top of the list:

Find out how many profiles in your area have been active this week — I underestimated this at first.
Worth confirming how much information is public before you match
Worth confirming whether you can search rather than only swipe — I would treat this as a dealbreaker.
Check how long a conversation stays available after a match — the marketing never covers this.
How obvious it is when someone has stopped using the app — I underestimated this at first.
