I tried the obvious options first without rushing it, and stopped assuming the obvious answer was right. Strip out the noise and the share of accounts that are dormant drives the outcome more than luck does. The difference persisted quite plainly well beyond what I would call noise. Worth a fortnight of your time for what it is worth, so weigh it against your own results.

I trialled the free tiers only with a couple of accounts, and a few things became obvious quickly. For me, how the inbox is ordered is worth more than any feature list.

I benchmarked it against what I used before with a couple of accounts, and I would do it the same way again. More than anything, how granular the filters are separates the usable options from the rest. The contrast was sharpest fairly clearly even after I changed my photos. Your area may behave differently in the end, the basics matter more than the tuning.

The things that actually moved the needle for me:

Worth confirming whether there is a desktop experience at all
How the onboarding handles preferences
Ask whether matches expire after a set time — this alone ruled a couple out for me.
