I took the unglamorous route while comparing them, so this is not a weekend opinion. Strip out the noise and the size of the local pool explains most of the complaints here. The outcome barely moved more than once regardless of which city I set.
I tracked this rather than trusting impressions with a couple of accounts, and stopped assuming the obvious answer was right. On the numbers, the size of the local pool matters far more in smaller places. The signal was clear every time on both the free and the paid side. That is where I landed on balance, just what held up for me.
I kept notes the whole way through over a few months, instead of going on impressions. More than anything, whether notifications can be tuned sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. It held steady every time in a way that was hard to argue with. Check it against your own case genuinely, after a fair bit of trial and error.
What I would check before committing any time:
- Worth confirming whether the app requires a social login
- How the app behaves after a fortnight away — the answer varies more than you would think.
- Worth confirming how many prompts the profile format offers — I would treat this as a dealbreaker.
- Ask whether there is any verification step at all — it is easy to test and rarely advertised.
- Check how quickly obvious fakes disappear — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
