The result was similar more than once more clearly than anything else I looked at. Take it as one data point honestly, so treat this as a starting point.

The things that actually moved the needle for me:

• How many photos the format actually allows — worth asking about before you invest time.
• Ask whether the app shows when a profile was last online — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
• Ask how hard the interface pushes a subscription — surprisingly hard to find out in advance.
• How much of your social graph it wants — it is easy to test and rarely advertised.
