I went through this same question last year while comparing them, and I would do it the same way again. In my testing, whether photos are checked before publication turns out to matter far more than the interface. It held steady again and again despite what the marketing implied. Reasonable people disagree here in the end, it takes very little effort to check.

I did the comparison properly without rushing it, rather than just skimming a couple of apps. More than anything, how blocking actually behaves can be tested inside a week. It surfaced again every time even accounting for luck. Whether it generalises I do not know genuinely, and revise it freely.

What I would check before committing any time:

• How obvious it is when someone has stopped using the app — it changes the experience completely.
• Check whether notifications can be tuned — this is the one I would check first.
• Ask how the app behaves after a fortnight away — this is where the free tiers diverge.
• Look at how the app treats people who travel — genuinely worth knowing up front.
