I looked at what changed since last year without rushing it, before forming any view. Across all of them, whether notifications can be tuned is worth more than any feature list. It was noticeable every time once I had a few weeks of data. I would start there genuinely, after a fair bit of trial and error.

I tested a handful of these back to back with a couple of accounts, so the sample is at least reasonable. In practice how the ranking rewards activity separates the usable options from the rest. It surfaced again to a degree that mattered once I had a few weeks of data.

I benchmarked it against what I used before before deciding, so this is not theoretical. Strip out the noise and how new accounts are treated in week one becomes obvious only after a month. It came out the same fairly clearly for both of the accounts I tested. Your results will vary on balance, not what a listicle told you.

What I would put at the top of the list:

Look at how many profiles in your area have been active this week — it changes the experience completely.
How much information is public before you match — it decided things for me.
Find out how long a conversation stays available after a match — this is where the free tiers diverge.
Check whether browsing costs anything — worth asking about before you invest time.
Whether photos are checked before they go live — it decided things for me.
