I checked this against my own numbers without rushing it, and it was more revealing than I expected. The pattern was clear enough: the ratio of active to dormant profiles is the difference between two opposite reviews. The effect stayed quite plainly well beyond what I would call noise.

I gave up on guessing and just measured before deciding, and the pattern turned out to be consistent. The honest answer is that moderation quality shapes the first fortnight more than anything. The signal was clear in a way I could measure regardless of how I framed the profile. Do not take this as gospel really, not what a listicle told you.

I have been through this properly while comparing them, and it reframed what I thought mattered. The thing nobody mentions is that how much depth the profiles allow is easy to check and almost never checked. It came out the same again and again in each of the areas I tested. Not universal advice really, the detail varies a lot by city.

What is worth five minutes of checking:

Check how many profiles in your area have been active this week — check it on a real account, not a demo.
Worth confirming how quickly support answers a real problem — this alone ruled a couple out for me.
Worth confirming whether the user base skews heavily in your area — it matters more after the first month.
Look at whether you can undo an accidental swipe — worth asking about before you invest time.
