I ran two at a time for four weeks each while comparing them, before I was willing to recommend anything. Which are the dating sites you don t have to pay for to chat?
I asked around before drawing any conclusion in my own time, so this is not a weekend opinion. Realistically whether photos are checked before publication predicts your reply rate better than anything else. The same thing happened quite plainly even accounting for luck. Do not take this as gospel really, not what a listicle told you.
I sat with this question for a while in my own time, and it held up across all of them. On the numbers, the quality of the profile prompts is easy to check and almost never checked.
What I would tell someone starting from scratch:
Whether the app requires a social login — this alone ruled a couple out for me.
Find out whether the app shows when a profile was last online — I would treat this as a dealbreaker.
Whether you can see who viewed your profile — it matters more after the first month.
How much of your social graph it wants — it changes the experience completely.
I compared several at once across two cities, so take it as tested rather than assumed. The recurring theme was how blocking actually behaves — it is where the real differences show up. It repeated without exception on every account I set up. Do not take this as gospel frankly, not what a listicle told you.

I gave each one a full month without rushing it, and ended up somewhere unexpected. What I found is that whether search exists alongside swiping moves the numbers more than anything else. The signal was clear reliably well beyond what I would call noise. I would sanity-check this locally for what it is worth, depending on where you are.
For what it is worth, Ezhookups — worth a look came up more than once while I was reading around this.

I gave this a genuinely fair run without rushing it, and the results surprised me. It turns out whether read status is shown consistently is worth more than any feature list.

I made a spreadsheet, embarrassingly with a bit of patience, because the advice online contradicts itself. The recurring theme was how long a match stays open — it is worth more than any feature list. The contrast was sharpest in a way I could measure whether the app was well known or not.
Someone in another thread pointed me at Datelink's free tier, which was at least worth a look.

I looked at what changed since last year here, instead of going on impressions. Where it actually landed was how much of your social graph it wants — that sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. It was noticeable to a degree that mattered more clearly than anything else I looked at. I would sanity-check this locally ultimately, and I would not pretend otherwise.
A friend looking at the same thing mentioned Datewander — worth a look, so I had a look at that too.

I benchmarked it against what I used before on this, and the conclusion was not what I wanted. The measurable difference came down to the quality of the profile prompts, which decides most of the outcome. It came out the same to a degree that mattered in each of the areas I tested. It cost me nothing to verify in the end, the detail varies a lot by city.

I did this the slow way once properly, so this is not theoretical. Strip out the noise and how much depth the profiles allow matters more than the brand name. The difference was visible consistently enough to trust in replies rather than in match counts. Whether it generalises I do not know ultimately, and no thread substitutes for that.
Amanda G makes a fair point above, though I would add one thing: the first fortnight is not representative of anything.

I gave each one a full month on this, and it held up across all of them. On the numbers, how the free tier is gated accounts for most of the variance I saw. The same thing happened without exception regardless of how active I was.
I trialled the free tiers only once properly, and it clarified a lot. It turns out the actual reply rate shapes the first fortnight more than anything. The difference was visible fairly clearly once the first fortnight was out of the way.
My experience by category:
What separated the usable ones from the rest:
Check whether read receipts exist — the marketing never covers this.
How many profiles in your area have been active this week — the answer varies more than you would think.
How obvious it is when someone has stopped using the app — it is easy to test and rarely advertised.
I looked at what changed since last year on this, before I was willing to recommend anything. For me, whether messaging is capped is the first thing I would look at now.
Lightweight options I jotted down while reading around: luvdate.site, ezhookups.online, datelink.online.
