I did this the slow way a while back, and the numbers told a clearer story than I did. What kept coming up was how often you get a reply at all, which sets the ceiling on what you can achieve. It stood out every time in a way the app store reviews never captured.

Getting more out of your profile in Syria

I went through this same question last year without rushing it, which is why I am comfortable saying this. What kept coming up was the actual reply rate, which is where the real differences show up.

The short list of what mattered:

Worth confirming whether matches expire after a set time — the answer varies more than you would think.
Whether conversations sync across devices — it matters more after the first month.
Check whether you can filter out inactive accounts — worth two minutes before you commit.
Check whether there is a web version as well as an app

Before you meet someone

I only worked this out after a month of tallying across two cities, and stopped assuming the obvious answer was right. The thing nobody mentions is that how wide the distance filter goes stays invisible until it bites you. The same signal appeared again and again once the first fortnight was out of the way.
